of our copper sinks

We use quality components and fine hand craftsmanship in every custom fitted copper sink.

Update: April 2006

This is the owner of Luxury Home Products. I just returned from visiting over 30 kitchen and bath showrooms throughout the Southeastern U.S. I learned a great deal on that trip. I saw several brands of copper sinks in my travels. The more I saw, the better I felt about our sink. Most of the sinks I saw were imports with dark finishes and heavy hammering. At first glance, I was impressed with the look. Upon closer inspection, I was amazed at what I saw. Virtually all of the sinks had flat bottoms. This means, the sink will not drain fully. Secondly, I noticed that they all had very heavy and attractive hammering. In order to do this, copper must be super-heated to soften the copper. Once it is super-heated, the molecular structure of the copper changes permanently. The copper remains very soft. This process is called annealing. On my most recent trip, I saw a copper sink, made in Mexico, from what appeared to be 32 ounce copper. I could have easily folded the sides in and crushed the sink with my bare hands. There is no way it could have supported a garbage disposer and held its shape. 32 ounce copper is thinner than what we use, but certainly strong enough for a sink to hold its shape. The dark finish on these sinks hides the extremely poor welding. Upon close inspection, I was able to see voids in the welds, which could fail in time, causing a sink to leak. I urge you to look closely at the imported sinks. Look at the seams and corners. Look at the squareness of the construction. With regard to the "handmade" sales pitch of the import sinks, what does the granite fabricator do when all four corners of the sink have a different radius? Hand made does not have to mean poor quality. Our sinks are hand made - right here in Florida, by some of the finest craftsmen in the U.S.. I could not put my name on the sink unless I was positive it was the best made sink in the industry, period! I also must say that I saw several stainless apron sinks by some of the largest companies in the world. Not a one would pass our standards of quality.

For generations sinks have been stamped out on assembly lines like bottle caps. Now, for the first time in generations, a true custom sink manufacturer emerges with the hand craftsmanship that most of us thought was long gone. It is now possible to have a custom sink in your custom kitchen. Imagine... a sink designed around your lifestyle. A custom kitchen deserves a custom sink. No appliance in the kitchen is used as much as the sink. Assembly line sinks are designed for the "average" consumer. They target the market where most sales can be made. That is kind of like making just one shoe size - medium. Most people will fit the shoe, some will squeeze in and the others will swim in them. Our sinks are designed specifically for you! Our sink design specialists will assist you in designing the perfect sink for you. We will discuss your height, whether you are right or left handed, your food preparation style and how you clean-up after a meal. All of these issues are important in designing your perfect sink. The possibilities are endless, your home will never be the same.

We are particularly excited to bring our line up of fine copper sinks to you. This sink exemplifies our company mission. We want to bring high quality luxury products to the market at realistic prices.

  • Quality Components: We designed several quality components into our sinks. First, we use only 48 ounce pure copper for our sinks. We have been told that copper is being marketed from some other countries at a fraction of the cost of pure copper. The copper is possibly made from melting down discarded components - commonly called recycled copper. The copper may be only 90% pure. 10% of the material is often classified as unknown impurities (lead, mercury, arsenic, etc.). Please be cautious to ask if the copper used in your sink is truly pure copper. The copper we purchase is certified 99.99% pure copper. We offer a certificate identifying that fact from our copper supplier. Our sinks require no additional support even with a garbage disposal and an oversized sink. Our sinks are copper-welded, never soldered. Solder turns black with age and is no where near as strong as welding both inside and outside. Once our sinks have aged, it is near impossible to detect welding in the inside corners. All other welding is undetectable. Even when new, a solder joint just seems to look out of place in a copper sink. Our copper sinks are 100% pure copper. Interestingly, we have found that some manufacturers sell copper sinks that are not 100% copper.  You can rest assured that your new copper sink will last for decades without worry! One online company offered copper sinks at much lower prices (made in the US) I was amazed at the prices so I purchased one to see what the sink looked like. I ordered a single bowl sink with a drainboard. The sink came packaged in a plywood box, nailed shut. One of the nails went through the sink. They did offer to fix it, instead we asked for a small credit to fix ourselves, and they agreed. (Bottom line, as we all have known since childhood... you get what you pay for!)

Drainboard slopes in the wrong direction - away from sink, water pools and will not drain.photo of copper sink

When asked about why their website shows a significant slope toward the sink, they indicated that the website had computer generated images and the actual sinks could differ slightly. Hmmm.

There are distinct reasons why some sinks are less expensive than ours. If you can not see it in person, look at the warranty and the acceptable method of payment before making a decision. Payment with a check offers no safety to the consumer. We accept all credit cards for your convenience and safety. We also have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you are not thrilled with the quality of our sink, simply tell us. We will have it shipped back, return all of your money and send you a check for $100 in consideration of your disappointment. Our limited warranty is for life. If you are paying for a luxury item, the quality and warranty should not expire in a year. We have been the leader in quality, design and service.

  • Right and left handed sinks:  Yes, there is such a thing as a right or left handed sink. Sink manufacturers rarely take this into consideration. They have to make generic sinks. Did you ever wonder why the drain is in the middle of your sink? It is there because it is neither right or left handed. How does a drain location make a sink right or left handed? First, let's look at the most logical placement for the drain. The drain should be in the rear right or left corner, far enough from the edge of the sink to allow for a disposer. Why the rear corner? Picture yourself cleaning a couple of cookie sheets, trays, or large pans. What happens when you set them down in your sink? They cover the drain! What a pain! A drain in the rear corner gives you the largest uninterrupted work surface in your sink.

Now, let's look at the issue of right and left handed sinks. If you are right handed and you are cleaning food from a plate, you will hold the plate in your left hand, scrape or spray the surface with your right hand. Wouldn't it make sense to have the drain on the right side?  Having the drain in the rear corner will allow you to slightly turn the plate away from you when you are spraying it. This will keep the over-spray from hitting you! It is reflected back into the sink. Lefties are no longer second class citizens. We make left handed sinks without a price penalty.

Why haven't any other manufacturers done this? The answer is simple. Actually, there are two answers. The first revolves around inventory. If right and left handed sinks were manufactured, dealers and distributors would have to inventory twice as much product. Manufacturers would have to have twice as many moulds for the sinks. It just is not cost effective. Secondly, most women can guess this one. Yes, they were designed by men who didn't cook or clean dishes. The owner and designer of every Custom Sink by Luxury Home Products is a gourmet cook. He is also an accredited space designer. The owner of Luxury Home Products has been in the kitchen design business since the mid 70's. He was often told that kitchens should be designed by women. In fact, visitors to his fully functional showroom would regularly point out displays and say "This was obviously designed by a female." He would thank them for the compliment and would chuckle and say he was the female that designed it. He would go on to explain that men could design kitchens that were well thought out - only if they knew how to cook! We truly believe that men or women without cooking skills should not be designing sinks or kitchens. Watch for the followers... Others will begin to follow our lead.

  • Rear left or right Drain offers additional storage: A rear corner drain pulls the plumbing to the rear corner of your sink cabinet. What was once a jungle full of pipes is now open for storage. Where is all of your trash generated? The sink area! Now you can put trash under the sink, where it belongs. Dishwasher to one side, drawers for silverware on the other side. Now you have the perfect kitchen!

  • Proper drainage: We use a cross break design in the bottom of the sink to allow for proper drainage.  This pattern allows water to drain from all corners. A flat bottom sink will not drain properly. Sinks without a proven method for drainage will have to be sponged out after each use.
