Did you know?

Copper sinks are easy to maintain and they actively kill bacteria

This is the owner of Luxury Home Products.  May I be perfectly candid? I have been a professional kitchen designer for over 25 years and I do not understand why anyone would consider a true custom kitchen without a fitted custom sink. Please allow me to illustrate my point.

  • We all know the sink is the most used appliance in thecopper sinks come right or left handed kitchen. We all know that humans come in all sizes. Some are right and some are left handed.

Have you ever experienced a back ache doing the dishes? If so, your sink design is the problem! When spraying off dishes have you ever gotten wet? That too is a design flaw in your sink. You may be too tall or too short for the depth of your current sink. Call us and speak to a specialist and see why our customers would never use an "off-the-shelf" sink again. Hundreds of our customers know why our sinks are different. Discover the difference and get really comfortable in your kitchen for the very first time!

  • Most people have a dishwasher and use it to clean all but very large and bulky items. photo of double bowl copper sink

If the above comment is true, why do we still consider double bowl sinks? They really do not make sense for most of us. The items which do not fit easily in a dishwasher, rarely fit even the large bowl of a double bowl sink. Does it not make sense then, to design a sinkphoto of single bowl apron front copper sink which will fit the large items easily? Read more

  • Many sinks are designed with the drain in the middle.

Have you ever used a sink where the drain was in the middle? Just place a cookie sheet in the sink or any large item, and watch the sink fill up with water. A center drain is the most ridiculous design idea yet! The drain should be in the rear of the sink, preferably in the right rear corner if the user is right handed, and left rear corner if the user is left handed. Moving the drain allows for a tremendous amount of free space inside the sink. It just makes sense! Now you can put the trash under the sink where it belongs!

The Perfect sink??copper apron front sink with integral backsplash

I recently designed a new style copper sink for our new kitchen. I recessed the sink cabinet 3" and designed the sink to go to the wall, and up the wall to the bottom of the window sill. The wall area will house our wall mounted faucet. Here are some of the benefits.

You will be 3 inches closer to the wall mounted faucet - essential for comfort. If you use a sink with a backsplash and do not recess the cabinet, the sink will be very long front to back. This will make the reach to the faucet too long and will likely cause a back ache when doing dishes.

The water, that drips from your hands when they are wet while turning off the water, will drip into the sink... not on the countertop.

The granite (or other) countertop now stops on each side of the sink. This eliminates a weak small strip of granite behind the sink. It may, depending on the layout of the granite, save you from having a seam in your countertop.

Last, but not least, you will not have to pay for the granite (and waste) that would normally be in the sink area. This could save you hundreds of dollars. Fabricators generally have to cut and polish four interior edges when fabricating an under mount sink installation. In this installation, the right and left edges are treated just like the end of a countertop. Much easier and less costly!

If you are not considering a wall mounted faucet, we can make a deck on the rear of the sink for you to install your faucet. We can make a 4" (or whatever you like) backsplash so you will eliminate the need for granite behind the sink. Please note: this type of sink is difficult to ship. We must send the sink out to be crated in order to prevent damage. There is an extended lead time for sinks with a full splash.

Things to consider: (If you are getting a sink with a rear corner drain)

Yes, a 9" deep is too deep!!! Most sinks are undermounted under granite, which effectively makes the sink 10 1/4" deep. That is just too deep if you are going to be working at the bottom of the sink. Think about this... the countertop (36" tall) is designed to be a comfortable work surface. Now subtract 10 1/4" from that comfortable height. You are effectively working at a 25 3/4" height. Take this test and then tell me if I am not correct. Make a work surface that is 25 3/4" tall. Get a paper and pen. Try writing a letter while standing and using the surface height you have just made. One more thing, make sure you are standing several inches back from your work surface (just like you would at a sink). Go ahead, write a long letter. I can assure you will have a back ache.

User Height: Did you know that there is an optimal sink depth proportionate to your height. Oh yes, your height does matter! Do you get tired while working at the sink? Or worse yet, get back aches like I used to? If so, your sink is not the right height. After 25 years in space planning and kitchen design, I have observed the following consistencies between user height and bowl depth.

User Height:

    Suggested bowl depth

Under 5'

    6 3/4"

5’0" to 5’3"

     7"

5’4" to 5"5"

     7 1/2"

5’5" to 5’6"

     8"

5’6" to 5’11"

8 1/4"    This group can work with a 9 inch deep with minimal discomfort

6’0"  to 6'2"

     7 1/2"

6'2" and taller

     7"

• These sinks are generally mounted under a countertop with a thickness of at least 3/4".

The copper myth: First, let me dispel a myth! We have had several customers call to inquire about the care of copper sinks. Some have been told by their friends, designers, and plumbers that copper is difficult to care for. There is some truth to that myth.  If you want your copper sink to look like a new shiny penny all of the time, copper is a chore. If you would like it to develop a beautiful golden brown patina, there is no maintenance. Yes, absolutely NO maintenance.

Dear Luxury Home Products,

I cannot say enough good things about both your products and your customer service.  Our new 33" apron-front copper sink is GORGEOUS.  More importantly, though, my husband and I can't get over your incredible 48-hour turnaround time to replace the sink when UPS damaged it in shipping.  Your extraordinary efforts paid off and enabled us to get our granite countertops installed just under the wire as our installer was leaving tonight on a 2-week vacation.  The kitchen looks beautiful and the sink is absolutely the focal point when you walk in. Thank you, thank you, thank you for helping make a very difficult situation much less stressful.  Your customer focus made all the difference.  We will send you photos once the kitchen is complete. Betsy Z.

I just wanted to add my appreciation of the craftsmanship, responsiveness, even keel and speed.  You guys are terrific!  It would be our pleasure to serve as a reference any time!  Feel free to show this email string to potential clients.  Thanks so much.
Ed Z.

4-3-1999  The sink arrived today and WOW it is incredible, my wife is only 5' 4" and I think she could bathe in it. You did a wonderful job thank you. R.M.F.
Thank you, the three sinks and faucets arrived safely and your original creation looks especially great !  Our kitchen designer was positively drooling over it and will no doubt be ordering more for his future projects.  Loved the way you signed the side of the sink with the date of its birth. We are creating a special backsplash which will be made of glass tiles in the shape of waves (bronze tiles) breaking over a neutral background (oatmeal tiles). Both these colors work well with the granite countertop in which your sink will reside. Everything should be installed and working by mid July so will send a photo to your Hibiscus Lane address to put in your baby album. G&D
Diane has gotten her copper sink and even I was impressed with it. Diane loves the sink and has caused her to move up her remodeling of our kitchen.  The workmanship is perfect.  She will sell a lot of sinks for you after we get it installed. V.S.
I have installed the new sink, it is perfect. J.R.

Reasons why a Custom Sink by Luxury Home Products is the best sink on the market:
  • We make copper sinks of 48 ounce copper. Many manufacturers use 20, 24, and 32 ounce copper for their sinks. The ounce rating is based on the weight of a 12" square sheet of copper. 48 ounce copper is 50% heavier and thicker than 32 ounce copper. Your sink will not easily dent or sag and requires no wooden support.
  • Our sinks drain properly - period! We heard, over and over, from kitchen dealer after kitchen dealer at the National Kitchen and Bath show, that the copper sinks they had been purchasing did not drain properly. I wish I had a dollar for each time I heard that complaint!  One kitchen dealer walked into our booth and said "Novel idea... looks like it actually drains". They had purchased a copper apron front sink from another source, installed it for one of their customers and it did not drain properly. The kitchen dealer had to remove the sink, absorb the cost, then had to find a stainless sink to fit in it's place - as they had not heard of us (yet). Due to the heavy gauge of our copper, we can press a shape that flows water to the drain - no matter where we place the drain in the sink.
  • Drain location - anywhere! If you are right handed, we suggest a right rear drain. Lefties, a left rear drain. Have one of each - how about a rear center drain. No matter, we are truly custom.
  • We copper weld our sinks. Do you know why others use solder? It is simple and fast - most of us have soldered something once or twice -  not really very difficult.  Copper welding requires very expensive equipment and a very skilled welder. Very few metal welders have the ability to weld copper. One mistake and the sink has to be tossed! Make a mistake when soldering, reheat and start again - no problem! A copper weld is stronger and much nicer to look at.
  • Lastly, and most important, we understand the ergonomics of sinks. The owner studied and practiced kitchen space design for over 25 years. He has trained the staff at Luxury Home Products to enable them to assist you in designing a COMFORTABLE sink. Unless you have experienced the difference, you can not imagine it. The difference between a custom fitted sink and a stock sink is like the difference between custom fitted orthotics verses and a five dollar shoe insole. For heavens sake, if you are getting a custom kitchen, don't forget the most important detail... a custom sink!
My personal guarantee of satisfaction. If you purchase a Custom Sink by Luxury Home Products  sink and you are not thrilled with the quality, we will promptly refund your money, pay return shipping costs and send you a check for $100 in consideration of your inconvenience. We want you to be thrilled with your purchase, so if you don't want the sink - for any reason, we will buy it back! Purchasing a Custom Sinks by Luxury Home Products product is without risk - and we take credit cards to enable you to have recourse in the event you are not satisfied.
