Recently, the Supreme Court ruled that manufacturers have the right to set minimum advertised prices as well as minimum selling prices. This was done to protect the consumer! At first glance, this does not make sense, does it? Here is why this policy is allowed.

Manufacturers have the right to protect the integrity of their products. Vendors, who sell at ridiculously low prices generally have very poor service. Just go to www.bizrate.com and type in the web address of an online company to see customer comments. Shockingly many popular companies have abysmal ratings. Luxury Home Products can not be rated by Bizrate as they require all products to be available for sale by shopping cart. Most of our products are sold by phone. We wish we could be rated, as we are certain our rating would be very high.

Just check out a competitor's rating and see what we mean. You can click the below image to go straight to their rating on Bizrate. This screen shot was taken on July 25th 2008. This company is one of the largest online companies with low prices but... their prices are no lower than ours on the products we represent. The manufacturers set the minimum selling price on all the products we offer.

I always look at the Ripoff Report before making an online purchase. I learned the hard way. I was taken advantage of by a company called Merchant Lynx to the tune of over $6000. If I had looked at that site prior, I would have seen numerous bad experiences just like I had. I also look at Bizrate before shopping. The most important thing I look for is a clear way to contact the company. I like to see an address, a phone, and a fax number. If these items are missing, I assume they are hiding from complaining customers. Our contact information is at the bottom of all of our web pages.

Back to protecting the consumer...
Manufacturers know that there is a certain minimum profit range which will enable the vendor to operate a profitable business and offer the standard of service required for the product. Some products require little customer service, therefore margins are lower. The products we offer are luxury products and our manufacturers have high standards for service. Our standards are even higher!

The bottom line: If you find prices lower online, you are likely looking at a product that is a "return", or a second, or you are looking at a company that is NOT authorized to sell the product. This is a risky purchase! Most of our manufacturers tell us there is NO warranty if product is purchased from a source selling below the maximum discount.  We regularly get referrals from several of our manufacturers for... guess what??? Customers looking for replacement parts for products purchased from unauthorized web sites. The customers thought the product was under warranty... and they found out the hard way - NO WARRANTY.

Saving a few dollars up front can cost much more in the long run. Replacement parts are sold at full retail and can add up to much more than the initial savings by purchasing through an unauthorized source. Luxury Home Products is an authorized dealer for all products on our web site. All products come with a full factory warranty and are brand new unless they appear on our clearance page where we occasionally offer seconds that are clearly marked as such.
