What is a 20 gauge sink? The gauge measures the thickness of the stainless steel. Most premium sinks are made of 18 gauge stainless. When measuring the thickness of metal, the lower the gauge the thicker the metal. Thus, 18 gauge is thicker than 20 gauge. There is also a quality issue to look at when deciding on a sink. There are many low quality sinks made of 20 gauge stainless steel. Generally, the finish is rough and there is very little attention to quality control.  Blanco, as well as Franke, manufactures some sinks in 20 gauge material. The same attention to quality and finish apply to these fine sinks.
